farewell, sinners.
judgment day.
The final day has arrived.
The hourglass embedded in the middle of the large, sprawling tree at the center of the garden runs down to the final grain of sand. Did you do all that you could to save your Eurydice? Orpheus, do you trust that this journey down here has been worthwhile?
For those who have completed their time here in Purgatory, a pathway out of the garden free of fog will reveal a staircase that spirals ever upward. You know that it will bring you home. For you wanderers, you can even follow someone else up the staircase if you've met the requirements so that you can cross over to their world. However you'll find you can only make that choice once—you ought to say your farewells to those you may not meet again until your next foray into the underworld.
Any of the following may happen:
Welcome to the end; the making and unmaking of your long, long journey.
for naught (worst): You have failed to open your heart to the maze. Characters who have taken more steps backward than they have forward will find themselves rooted to the same spot. The flowers of the garden begin to curl over your feet, climbing up your ankles, your shins. Your Eurydice does not wake. The place beyond the meadow, further into the fog, calls you. Try, try again.
this hell with you (bad): You have made some progress… and your Eurydice wakes. A flutter of their eyes, a big yawn, and a gentle rise from the garden. Your reunion may ensue… and in fact, continue. Those who did not take enough steps forward will instead find that the pathway forward does not open for them. They cannot even see it. Instead, the flowers continue on and on… into the fog. You and your Eurydice must endure another round of mazes in order to properly escape. Perhaps this time, with company, you might get it right.
distance makes the heart grow fonder (better): You have made a moderate amount of progress—and yet. Your reunion with your Eurydice is joyous and warm. It is also short-lived. The pathway ahead only has room for one. Either you may walk ahead to return home without your Eurydice, or… your Eurydice can go on without you. However, you cannot stay together. One of you must walk forward and believe—trust—that one day, some day, the other will follow.
what legends are made of (best): This is the conclusion that all know. Orpheus and Eurydice may walk together to leave the underworld—but Orpheus, you must have faith that you can put one foot in front of the other. The path out of here opens, welcoming you both… as long as your anxiety does not get the better of you. Do you trust? Do you have certainty, after everything, that this isn’t another trick? Or worse, do you love so dearly that you cannot help but look back?
Or…
walk on?: Perhaps this isn’t time for your journey in Purgatory to end. Even if you retrieved your Eurydice… do you only have one love in your life? Your Eurydice wakes, and regardless of wherever they walk to, you might find yet another mirror shard in your pocket. Another figure, this time asleep in gorgeous, golden sand. Do you continue?
mod notes.
Thank you all for playing in Purgastory! At this final log, you have the choice of how your character’s journey ends. Mods will not make any final calls for your finale. You may use the steps forward or backward from Activity Check as guidelines, as fun little flavor text, but you may ultimately choose the ending you find most fitting for your sinner. Even a character who has taken multiple steps back, or who has died, has a chance to go home in the Best Ending if you really want. Similarly, a character who has passed every AC can also fail and be trapped if you really want. All we ask is that you try to at least slightly justify these choices in your meta.
In addition, please note that there is no worldhop or cross-world communication. You're free to do as you want in your PSLs, but for official game canon purposes, there's none to be found. Characters may leave to another person's home world with them, but they cannot cross back to their own home after.
Feel free to tag your final choices with each other! If you would like to have a friend (or you in a mask) play your Eurydice if they woke up, feel free!
A hearty thank you again for playing with us in Purgastory. We hope that this tale was satisfying to its very end.

But blink again, and the little girl is gone. It's just Mafuyu.
And whether you're planning on leaving or whether you're not (or you can't), she rests her hands in front of her and gives you a bow.

perhaps at a glance, it was hard to tell their resemblance to each other, especially so when suzune's eyes were closed in both the shard and the coffin. but for those who see her now, animated and chattering away with tobari in the distance, it might be simpler to see the resemblance in the bright shade of their piercing green eyes—and the way that she glares exactly the same way he does. oh yes, she's glaring at him. briefly but frequently, her mood tempestuous like any proper teenage girl. the two of them talk things out, you might even catch sight of him offering her a vial to drink or lightly rearranging her hair to make sure it falls properly while she looks through a small book, but if you end up making your approach—
Ah, excuse me! Are you an acquaintance of Tobari's? [ she doesn't wait for an answer, her expression immediately growing fretful ] Thank you so much for taking care of him! I'm so very sorry for anything at all that he could've possibly said that was rude or horrible!
[ tobari, in the background, mumbling to himself: "anything"....?
this is truly just my chance to rp suzune who is the best girl of all time. (you can get goodbye time with tobari as well if you want,,) ]

He pauses upon seeing Suzune, though, beaming at her.]
Ah!! Yes, hello! I'm glad to be able to properly meet you. Tobari had a lot to say about you!

[it ends with Laurent tilting his head slightly, his smile serene. edged with the affection that Edamura has never been able to see. Until next time then, mon ami?]
[a sharp exhale. . . . yeah, sure. Until next time, you asshole.]
[and with that, Laurent turns on his heel to ascend the stairwell alone, one hand lifted in a lazy goodbye wave. Edamura stares at his back and watches him go, knowing that this time, it is his turn to follow. one day, when he is ready]

MAJOR ISAT secret ending spoilers in here
(seriously look away if you don’t want one of ISAT’s coolest secrets handed to you)
[It’s Siffrin! Or is it? Their hat is missing. Their hair shimmers, casting its star-like glow as if to counter Purgatory’s sunless, lightless midday. And though their face remains the same, the hands that hold Isabeau’s, gloveless, are dark as night, and speckled with little dots of light. They look a little bit more tired. And just a bit more lost.]
I don’t think I ever fully figured out what happened to you, but that’s okay.
[Isabeau draws The Mixer’s special little vial of second chance from his pocket and presses it into their palm, closing their fingers around it.]
You’ve got your own family to get back to, don’t you? I think, with this... you’ll be able to.
[The two of them spend a little longer talking, the words exchanged just for them. And then dear Siffrin? exits, climbing the staircase alone.]
[His Eurydice sent onward, Isabeau turns back. He’s got a lot of people to say goodbye to! And, of course, he won’t be leaving without Siffrin.]

Are you going to be heading back home, monsieur?

Okay that's dramatic he has a strength stat of like -2. BUT HE IS DEFINITELY WHACKING KOU'S ARM WITH HIS SWEATER PAWS AND GRIPING, as expected... Kou is also yelling back at him, because they're both stupid, but after they get it all out of their systems, Mitsuba flops against him with a huge sigh and looks more at ease than he has the whole time he's been here. I don't play Kou so I won't tag with him but I must establish this ridiculous dynamic.
Eventually Kou will go wander off to explore; he does not, however, seem to notice the staircase. Mitsuba, similarly, doesn't seem to realize it's there. But he doesn't seem upset--instead, he simply waits here in the garden for Kou to finish checking out the area.
Mitsuba will be staying in purgatory for a while longer, but he's available for goodbyes if you would like!]

Duty calls, so eventually, with a headpat, Ilulu will send her other self home. But duty also calls here. What kind of reaper abandons the lost souls in her care? So as long as there are people lingering, Ilulu will too. She's not worried about making it home herself, someday. For now... maybe those of you who are stuck here will do better next time, with a supportive big sister by your side.
Ilulu will be staying in Purgatory for a while, but she is available for goodbyes if you would like!!]

Anyway at the end of the end, Tokinaga looks at a strange something -- blurred, unclear, ultimately mundane. It's a tired him on an early winter day, it's a young girl with black hair, it's something with inexplicable colours and a representation of an old life. It has a strange twisting aura like water, like flowers, like feathers.
It slowly moves on towards the light and the strange aura begins to melt away, leaving only the shape of a person.
He wonders if this is really fine, but he'll inevitably follow after a moment of goodbyes. ]

from a ways off, you will watch a few things happen. fiammetta will hurry towards a bright blue-haired fallen angel with a halo, horns, and glassy wings. she has a natural, easy smile on her face until fiammetta punches her in the arm.
"Ow... What's with you?"
fiammetta doesn't answer. she grabs mostima's hands and inspects them. then she grabs both of her cheeks and inspects her face. mostima's cheeks run a little red, her eyes wide and confused.
then fiammetta hugs her tightly. mostima staggers back a little with the force of it, her arms hovering in the air.
"Fiammetta?"
"Shut up."
another moment passes. fiammetta's face is in mostima's shoulder. mostima smiles, slowly curls her arms around fiammetta, and pats her back.
"I wish I had a camera. Lemuen would fall out of her chair if she saw this."
"Are you deaf?"
"Hehe."
i will be tagging around for goodbyes unless you want to wildcard it here. while that's going on, mostima is simply spectating beside the beginning of the staircase.
if you approach her, she'll turn that smile back to you. ]
And... congratulations. I think that's what you should say here, right? Congratulations?

Hikaru is not here because he probably went to heaven, but "Hikaru" is, standing together with another boy who looks extremely quiet, shy, and morose. Hikaru is holding Yoshiki's hand, all big smiles with the one prominent tooth.
They aren't by the staircase. In fact, there is just a field of beautiful flowers with the end being consumed by fog. But Hikaru and Yoshiki are together and that's what matters.]

Good morning. It's time to go.
[The boy, clad in a tattered shirt and cargo pants, climbs the rest of the way out on his own. Utterly expressionless, he nods before following Yuma to the staircase with measured steps.
The pair stop at the base of the stairs, where Yuma looks the length of it up and down. At long last, this can all be put behind them. He stands in silence for a moment, kept quiet company by his younger self, before beginning his ascent without looking back.]
